Hey Abby Baseball Family,
We trust the first month of the ball season has been good and that the cold rainy weather hasn't put a damper on too many ball games so far. Just wanted to mention a few reminders early on this season.
- Please be respectful of our Umpires. This goes for Players / Coaches / Parents & Spectators. Please do not yell, scream or say negative things towards our umpires. We are proud of the fact that we develop a lot of young umpires in our association and have a strong base to draw from.
- Coaches / Team managers - please be sure that fields are properly raked and that bases / field equipment is put back in the storage containers and locked up after each game and practice.
Lastly, we have a favor to ask. It is no secret that our City fields have not grown or expanded with our population growth in the past 15-20 years, and it's no secret that we are lacking proper fields and facilities to host significant provincial tournaments or to even handle future growth of our association. (We actually have to cap registrations in some age groups because we do not have the field space to accommodate). The City is hosting info sessions over the next several weeks to get Residents feedback on how to plan for the growth of our City over the next 25 years. We want to make sure our voice is heard to ensure that Sports Fields (more importantly, Baseball fields) are a high priority item in the future City plan. Can you make your voice heard in the following ways,
In Person - Stop by one of the following info sessions on these dates,
Saturday May 11th - 11am-5pm (Sevenoaks Shopping Centre, next to Purdy's)
Thursday May 16th - 5:30-7:30pm (Mountain Elementary)
Saturday May 25th - 1-4pm (Open Space Gallery - 33765 Essendene)
Friday May 31st - 4-7pm (Highstreet Shopping Mall - Main Plaza)
Having proper fields for our kids to play on is paramount to the growth both for the physical and mental development of our future generation. Please help make sure the City hears our voice for more playing fields. Thanks, and enjoy the rest of your spring season!
Sincerely,
Rob Brandsma
